Samuel Schaarschmidt (doctor)

Samuel Schaarschmidt (born November 24, 1709 in Terek ; † June 17, 1747 in Berlin ) was a German physiologist and pathologist .

Life

Samuel Schaarschmidt was born as the son of pastor Justus Samuel Schaarschmidt (1664-1724) during his stay in Terek (German also Terki), who was the founder and director of a school there.

Schaarschmidt studied medicine in Halle (Saale) and received his doctorate there. He then went to Berlin and became a professor at the Collegium medico-chirurgicum, founded in 1724 . He also worked at the Charité . In 1735 he was elected a full member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences .

The physician August Schaarschmidt (1720–1791) was his brother.
