Zhoushan ( Chinese舟山 岛) is the third largest island in the People's Republic of China , after Hainan and Chongming . It belongs to the southeast Chinese province of Zhejiang and is the main island of the group of the same name, the Zhoushan Islands (舟山 群岛). These are located east of Hangzhou Bay in northeast Zhejiang, near Shanghai .
The area of the island of Zhoushan forms the district-free city of Zhoushan (舟山 市) with other areas of the Zhoushan islands .
