The Zilch Cliffs are a series of steep rock cliffs in Marie Byrd Land in West Antarctica . They mark the eastern extension of McDonald Heights
The first aerial photographs were taken during the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941). The United States Geological Survey mapped them on the basis of the United States Navy's own measurements and aerial photographs from 1959 to 1965. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named them in 1966 after Lieutenant Commander Charles Herbert Zilch (* 1928), head of the meteorological support unit at the Operation Deep Freeze of 1966.
