The McDonald Heights are a large and mainly snow-covered mountain range on the border between the Hobbs and Ruppert coasts in the West Antarctic Marie Byrd Land . They extend at a height of up to 1000  m over a length of 56 km between Cape Burks and Morris Head . They are limited to the south by the Hull , Kirkpatrick and Johnson glaciers .

Aerial photos were taken during the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941). The crew of the icebreaker USS Glacier surveyed and mapped the mountains in February 1962. The United States Geological Survey carried out a detailed mapping in 1965. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the Heights in 1966 after Edwin Anderson McDonald (1907–1988), Deputy Commander of the United States Navy Support Units in Antarctica in 1962 and head of the research group on the USS Glacier .
