Rooms (Stebbach)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zimmer is a complete urban devastation in the district of Stebbach , a district of the municipality Gemmingen in the district of Heilbronn in northern Baden-Württemberg . Streichenberg Castle is located on the former area of Zimmer .

Excavations by the State Monuments Office of Baden-Württemberg in 1969/70 uncovered extensive ceramic finds as well as the structural remains of the stone church and various wooden houses in the town. According to the found pottery, the settlement of the place dates to the late 7th or early 8th century. The houses and the first church in the village were built in single-nave post construction as single-storey wooden houses with a length of seven to eleven meters. The barns seem to have been structurally separated from the houses. In place of the basement, which was not in use at the time, dug out buildings were built as workhouses for fabric production or for storing perishable supplies. The settlement finds also allowed conclusions to be drawn about the development of the settlement. It could be proven that the originally wooden church of the place was later replaced by a stone hall building with a recessed rectangular choir . Due to the stove tiles found, it can be assumed that the initial heating of the houses by open fire changed to heating with tiled stoves in the High Middle Ages . The place was abandoned in the late Middle Ages . The church may have existed for some time after the village had already been abandoned.
