Zirconium (IV) hydroxide can be obtained by reacting acidic zirconium salt solutions with ammonia .

Zirconium (IV) hydroxide is a white gelatinous solid that is practically insoluble in water. Zirconium (IV) hydroxide can be used to make Friedel-Crafts catalysts. It is also an important intermediate in the production of zirconium.
