Le Jardinet Cistercian Abbey
The Cistercian Abbey Le Jardinet was a monastery of the Cistercians from 1232 to 1441 , then the Cistercians until 1793 , in Walcourt , Province of Namur , Belgium .
history
The first abbess of the monastery founded 20 km south of Charleroi in Walcourt ( Vallis curia ) came from the Cistercian Abbey of Fontenelle in 1242 . In 1441 the nunnery was dissolved after a visitation and the monastery was instead populated with monks from the Cistercian abbey of Moulins (Janauschek 717, Filiation 26.1). In 1793 the monastery fell victim to the French Revolution . Except for a few remains (including the monastery portal), the buildings were demolished.
