The Cistercian abbey of Bons was a monastery of the Cistercian women from 1155 to 1791, first in Chazey-Bons , and from 1650 in Belley , Ain department , in France.

history

Margaret the Pious of Savoy, daughter of Count Amadeus III. (Savoy) , founded the nunnery Bons (also: Bunzium , Bonz , Bon , Bunz or Buntz ) in 1155 seven kilometers north of Belley and died there two years later. The monastery was under the supervision of Saint-Sulpice Monastery . In 1650 the convent moved to the town of Belley ( Grande Rue ). There it came to the dissolution of the monastery in 1791 by the French Revolution . In Chazey-Bons, the remains of the wall of the monastery church and the street name Route de l'Abbaye are reminiscent of the former monastery.
