Dalheim Cistercian Abbey

The Dalheim Cistercian abbey was an aristocratic monastery of the Cistercian women in Dalheim from 1258 to 1802 , today a part of Dalheim-Rödgen , town of Wegberg , district of Heinsberg , diocese of Aachen .

history

The Hemelsdaal (“Himmeltal”) monastery, founded in Ophoven, Kinrooi , in 1197 for noble nuns, was relocated to the east before 1258 and existed under the name Dalheim (“Talheim”) until 1802. Immediatoberer was the Kamp monastery . The name has been preserved in today's village of Dalheim. The Dalheimer Cross, considered to be miraculous, is located in the Christoffelkathedraal in Roermond . The Cistercian convent should not be confused with Dalheim Monastery (Lichtenau) , Dalheim Monastery (Mainz) and the St. Ludwig College near Dalheim.
