Cistercian Abbey of La Woestyne
The Cistercian abbey La Woestyne (also: La Woestine) was from 1195 to about 1792 a monastery of Cistercian nuns in Renescure , Pas-de-Calais , in France .
history
The canonical monastery , founded in 1195 in Renescure, east of Arques (Pas-de-Calais) , was settled in 1217 by Cistercian women from La Brayelle (and / or Blendecques ) and was named "Maria Desert" ( Notre-Dame de la Woestyne , also: Woestine , after Dutch woestijn = desert). It was under the direction of the nearby Clairmarais Monastery . La Woestyne was destroyed by the French Revolution. The few remains are now part of the Bonduelle company premises . The nun Hyacinthe Dewismes (1760–1828) from La Woestyne, who fled to the Himmelpforten (Ense) monastery , belonged to the circle of founders of the Saint Bernard sisters of Esquermes , whose mother house is now the La Cessoie monastery .
