Laval-Bénite Cistercian Abbey

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cistercian abbey Laval-Bénite (also: Val de Bressieux ) was a monastery of the Cistercian women from 1119 to 1791, first in Saint-Pierre-de-Bressieux , and from 1635 in La Côte-Saint-André , Isère , in France.

history

When Amadeus of Lausanne and his companions entered the Bonnevaux monastery, which had just been founded , the Laval-Bénite nunnery in Saint-Pierre-de-Bressieux was founded twenty kilometers to the southeast for the female members of the families . Among the abbesses was Beatrix of Hungary, wife of Jean II (Viennois) († 1319). In 1635 the convent was moved to the nearby town of La Côte-Saint-André. In 1791 the French Revolution led to the dissolution of the monastery. To the south of the hamlet of Rossière, the Route de l'Abbaye and the Ruisseau de l'Abbaye stream in Saint-Pierre-de-Bressieux , and the Rue Laval in La Côte-Saint-André, are reminiscent of the former monastery.
