Cistercian Abbey of Lieu-Notre-Dame (Romorantin-Lanthenay)
The Cistercian abbey Lieu-Notre-Dame (also: Lieu or Notre-Dame-du-Lieu ) was from about 1220 to 1791 a monastery of Cistercian nuns in Romorantin , a commune in the Loir-et-Cher in France .
history
The monastery was founded between 1218 and 1222 north of Romorantin in Sologne and dissolved in 1791 by the French Revolution . The church has been preserved (privately owned), as well as a dovecote and two wells. In Lanthenay, street names ( Notre-Dame du Lieu , Le Lieu Notre-Dame , Le Petit Lieu ) and the “Etang du Lieu” pond are reminiscent of the monastery. The Lanthenay Church houses a statue of St. Bernard of Clairvaux (17th century) from the monastery .
