In 1576 the monastery suffered from the Geusen , but was able to hold on to it until it was dissolved by the French Revolution in 1796 . From 1830 to 1966 the buildings served as barracks. Then the Gothic abbey church from the 13th century, as well as the abbess house and a gatehouse from the 17th century were restored. Today they house the City Archives and the Academy of Fine Arts (on Maagdendale Street).
