from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cistercian Abbey of Our Lady of the Prés was 1231-1791 a monastery of Cistercian nuns in Saint-André-les-Vergers in Troyes , Aube in France. It should not be confused with the Cistercian Abbey of Les Prés in Douai and the Notre-Dame des Prés nunnery founded by Marie-Bernard Barnouin in Reillanne .

history

The monastery, founded in 1231 at the gates of Troyes (in today's Saint-André-les-Vergers), was founded by Pope Gregory IX against the will of the neighboring Benedictine monastery of Montier-la-Celle in 1234 . confirmed in his rights and accepted into the Cistercian order in 1235 . The mother of Pope Urban IV died as a member of the monastery. When it was dissolved by the French Revolution , 11 nuns still lived there. Today the streets of Rue des Dames , Rue Notre-Dame des Prés and Passage des Bernardines are reminiscent of the former monastery.
