The Cistercian monastery of Mont-Sion (also: Mont de Sion ) was a French monastery of the Cistercian women in Marseille , Bouches-du-Rhône department from 1242 to 1791 .

The Cistercian Abbey of Gémenos , at the invitation of the Bishop of Marseille, Benoît d'Alignan , was founded in 1242 in front of the then gates of Marseille on the hill Saint-Michel (also Plan Saint-Michel , therefore incorrectly "La Plaine") in the area of ​​today's Place Jean -Jaurès (on the border of the 1st, 5th and 6th arrondissements) the nunnery Notre-Dame de Mont-Sion , which was relocated to the city in the 14th century, first next to the former church of Saint-Martin (today Rue Colbert ), 1769 in the rue des Convalescents (both in the 1st arrondissement ). The monastery, which was closed by the French Revolution in 1791 , had properties in what is now the Luminy district ( 9th arrondissement ), which is now a university campus.
