The Cistercian monastery Claraval (lat. Prioratus simplex BMV de Spiritu Sancto ; Port. Mosteiro Cisterciense N. Sra. Do Espírito Santo ) has been a Brazilian monastery in Claraval, Minas Gerais , diocese of Guaxupé since 1950 .

history

Monks of the Italian monastery Casamari founded the monastery Nossa Senhora do Espírito Santo ("Our Lady of the Holy Spirit") in 1950 in what was then Garimpo das Canoas (later: Claraval ), between Franca and Passos , which (after the building was built) in 1969 raised to a territorial abbey , but downgraded to a priory in 2002 and incorporated into the diocese of Guaxupé .
