Civil Merit Medal (San Marino)

The civil merit medal was donated in gold , silver and bronze by the Council of the Republic of San Marino on March 22, 1860 and can be awarded for all outstanding services rendered to the state as well as for special achievements in the field of charity, science and art. The Military Merit Medal was also donated on the same date .

The octagonal medal bears the inscription MERITO (merit) in the middle and is surrounded by a wreath of oak leaves tied at the bottom . The reverse shows, resting on crossed flags, spears, rifles, sabers and drums and surmounted by a crown, the coat of arms of the Republic and the words REPUBBLICA DI SAN MARINO all around in the semicircle above .

The award is worn on a sky-blue ribbon with red stripes on the left chest.
