Zizhi Tongjian
The Zizhi Tongjian ( Chinese 資治通鑒 / 资治通鉴 , Pinyin Zīzhì Tōngjiàn , W.-G. Tzu-chih T'ung-chien - "Comprehensive time mirror to help the government") is a Chinese historical work with an annalistic character . It comprises 294 volumes with around three million words. The main author of the work is Sima Guang , who also adopted earlier events and dates from the classic historical works . His work covers the period from the Warring States Period ( 403 BC ) to the end of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms ( 959 AD) in chronological order. It was created between 1065 and 1084 .
