The Zlatý vrch ( German Goldberg ) (657 m) is a mountain in the Lusatian Mountains in northern Bohemia ( Czech Republic ). On the east and south sides, a quarry that was operated until 1973 seriously endangered the substance of the mountain. Because of the exposed basalt columns and the distinctive summit area, the mountain was again placed under protection as a national natural monument on 4.13 hectares in 1964.

Location and surroundings

The Zlatý vrch is located on the main ridge of the Lusatian Mountains about 5 km northeast of Česká Kamenice ( Bohemian Kamnitz ). The small village Líska ( Hasel ), a district of Česká Kamenice, is located directly at the foot . To the northwest, already at the transition to Bohemian Switzerland , the mighty Studenec ( Kaltenberg ) towers over the landscape on the Zlatý vrch.

history

The dismantling of the basalt columns was stopped in 1940 and declared as a natural monument together with the Stříbrný vrch (Silver Mountain), but the quarrying began again before the end of the Second World War and was continued afterwards. The breaking of the basalt columns was finally stopped on November 27, 1973.

Paths to the summit

  • The mountain lies on the red- marked ridge path ( European long-distance hiking trail E3 ) in the Lusatian Mountains, a marked junction leads to the former quarry on the east side. The summit area is under nature protection and is therefore not accessible.
