Zomba Label Group

Zomba Label Group is a publisher founded in 1977 by Clive Calder in the USA ( New York City ), which belonged to the Bertelsmann Music Group , but is part of Sony Music Entertainment after the merger between Sony Music and BMG in 2008 . Books were published until 1981, and from 1981 Zomba entered the music business. In the 1980s and 1990s, Zomba counted some of the most renowned hip-hop musicians among its artists. More recently, artists like Britney Spears have also been signed to Zomba Records. After Calder sold 20% of his shares to BMG in 1996 , the rest followed in 2001.

At the end of the 1990s, Zomba Records was expanding : in 1999, when it was already present in Africa, North and South America and most European countries, the company opened a branch in Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore and China (here under the joint venture -Name BMG Zomba Production Music Asia Ltd.). She had previously bought the British punk label Rough Trade Records . In addition, the labels Epidemic Records , Jive Records , LaFace Records , Battery Records , GospoCentric Records , Silvertone Records , Verity Records and Volcano Records now belong to the Zomba Group.
