Zoran Lopandic

Zoran Lopandic ( Serbian - Cyrillic Зоран Лопандић * 1959 in Dvorovi , FVR Yugoslavia ; † 5. January 2017 in Bijeljina , Bosnia and Herzegovina ) was the Bosnian Serb commander of the 2nd Battalion of the paramilitary Freischar first Semberska Laka Pješadijska Brigada in Bosnian War .

Lopandić was born in 1959 in the village of Dvorovi north of the Yugoslav city of Bijeljina . There he spent his childhood and also attended elementary and college. He then attended the officers' academy of the Yugoslav People's Army in Zadar and finished it with the rank of reserve officer. He then worked in several companies and was repeatedly named the best employee.

On April 12, 1992 he was appointed to the rank of captain ( Kapetan ) commander of the 2nd Battalion, the paramilitary freischar 1. Semberska Laka Pješadijska Brigada, founded on the same day. He led them through the entire Bosnian War. He was particularly distinguished by his military successes in the Semberija and Majevica area . In 1992, the singer and songwriter Roki Vulovic also served in the 1st semberska laka pješadijska brigada , who dedicated his album Semberski junaci to the unit . This also contained a personal homage to Lopandić in the form of the play Zorane, Zorane . He is also mentioned together with Jovan Mićić in the song Junaci iz 1. semberske brigade from the same album . During the war he was promoted to major.

Zoran Lopandić died on January 5th, 2017 in Bjieljina after a long and serious illness. He was buried a day later on January 6th of the same year in his home village of Dvorovi.
