Zororo Makamba

Zororo Makamba (born January 17, 1990 in Harare ; † March 23, 2020 there ) was a Zimbabwean journalist and television presenter .

Life

Makamba was born the son of entrepreneur James Makamba, who is also featured in the Zimbabwean media . He received a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University in 2012 , followed by a master's degree from the New York Film Academy .

Makamba was initially a radio host. In 2015 he started his show Tonight with Zororo . He was also a member of the jury for the Zimbabwean program My Own Boss . Most recently he hosted the State of the Nation program, which is popular in his home country .

Makamba had returned from a trip to New York City on March 9, 2020 and developed flu-like symptoms on March 12 . At that time, he was already suffering from the previous illness myasthenia gravis and only had a tumor removed from him in 2019 . On March 21, 2020, he was finally diagnosed with the viral disease COVID-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2 . Two days later he died in a Harare hospital . This made him the first person to fall victim to the COVID-19 pandemic in Zimbabwe .

Zororo Makamba's death sparked debate because despite his prominent status, he was unable to receive adequate treatment.
