Zuginsfeld
Zuginsfeld is the title of expressionist poem, the first work of Otto Nebel . The work comprises over 6,000 verses and is divided into twenty-three sections, the content of which is divided into two parts - first, the structure of the military and second, the war. ZUGINSFELD is an outlaw for war and the society that produces it. It was written in 1918 within Nebel's fourteen-month stay in the English prison camp in Colsterdale, Yorkshire, and was published in sequentials in The Storm magazine between 1920 and 1923 .
In 1970, a radio play was produced from ZUGINSFELD and his poem Unfeig , published in 1924/1925, with the help of Nebel . In 1972 a sound recording of a reading through Nebel was made in Basel.
content
The main theme is the horror of war and the spiritual and artistic vocation it has awakened. Language, which has become a lie, shows particular disgust.
ZUGINSFELD is divided into 23 sections. It starts with building the military. This part leads from "the common" (section I), through "the private" (II), "the sergeant" (III), "Kammersergeant" (IV), "clerk" (V), "military music" (VI) , "Military Doctor" (VII), "Lieutenant" (VIII), "Captain" (IX), "Colonel" (XI), "General" (XII), "Maneuver" (XIII), "Alp" (XIV), up to “Kaiser Wilhelm” (Section XV). This is followed, beginning with the section “The war is breaking out” (section XVI), the second part on the war, which ends in the section “Help!” (Section XXIII) - a cry without an answer, with which the work ends .
Language and style
The work begins with the quotation of a patriotic phrase: "Defense force in the spirit". Immediately afterwards the critical question arises, "Who" should answer for it. The answer is: "The man!" In the next few lines, which also reflect the impressions that assail you when you are integrated into the army, according to René Radrizzani's interpretation, the man is manipulated and uniformed as a subject. In the poem, phrases and comments are mounted side by side . One means of representation is the word joke , for example in "General conscription: meanness in space!", "Kaffir gossip - coffee battle", "Thief home country a. D. ”or“ the right to vote ”. The style of the poem consists of strings of words that are suddenly interrupted in some places. In Radrizzani’s view, Nebel exposes the phrases and the social lie through and in the language, with the language holding the linguistic world of the poem together as an amalgam.
