At home in happiness - our entry into a new life was a German documentary soap that was broadcast on Tuesdays at 8:15 p.m. on RTL II . The first broadcast was on October 4, 2005. On November 2, 2010, the 100th episode was celebrated. The 150th episode celebrated its premiere on December 17, 2013 on RTL II. The 200th episode aired on January 31, 2017.

The concept of the show was based on the American format Extreme Makeover - Home Edition , which was produced by the television broadcaster ABC and was shown in Germany from 2003 to 2012 under the title Das Hausbau-Kommando - Trautes Heim, Glück alone on DMAX .

On January 14, 2019, RTL II announced that this format had been discontinued after almost 14 years. Production ended in 2018. The episodes that had already been filmed were still broadcast and the last broadcast was broadcast on March 12, 2019.

content

The television program showed how interior designer Eva Brenner and architect John Kosmalla as well as twelve other craftsmen per program convert several rooms in the house of a family in an emergency situation within eight days. During this time, the family was staying in a nearby hotel and was not allowed to have any contact with the construction site. In general, the needs and wishes of the respective families were addressed so that in the end a satisfactory result was available for both the family and the team. In contrast to other furnishing programs on private television, not only were drywall walls built, but skylights were also installed, an extraordinary number of openings made and the concept of the respective apartment fundamentally changed. In containers and mobile homes, the construction team had its own kitchen directly at the construction site and was therefore able to work flexibly and around the clock.

In 2009 Eva Brenner and John Kosmalla were supported by Daniel Kraft and Mario Bleiker as well as a new team of craftsmen.

After portraits of the family and their emergency situation, the renovation of each house began with the handover of the key to the team. A large banner was then attached to the house to mark the opening of the construction site. The house was rebuilt over the next eight days. At the beginning and end of each day, a team member summarized the progress on the construction site and assessed whether the team was on time. The handover of the keys when the family returned was celebrated with neighbors, friends and the team in front of the renovated house, and finally the family visited the individual rooms.

In earlier years there were various extras per episode that kept recurring. Among other things, these included a building message from 2005 , which was delivered in the form of a DVD during the week by a member of the building team and gave the families a mostly humorous impression of what was happening in their house. Until 2007 there was the building message , which was later replaced by the building puzzle . This enabled the family to receive a separate profit, for example a fireplace or an aquarium was also installed.

Two other categories that recurred per episode were The Craftsman Tip , in which a craftsman explained how to e.g. B. wallpapered a wall and Wolfgang's construction site ABC . There construction manager Wolfgang gradually explained the construction of a construction site. Meanwhile there is only Eva's crafting tip per episode , in which Eva tinkers an accessory together with a family member.

In addition to Eva Brenner, Resi Colter has also been featured on the show as an interior designer and presenter since 2016.

At the moment there were 21 craftsmen working in the “At Home in Happiness” troop. In total there were more than 25 different craftsmen.
