Zuhdi Al-Dahoodi

Zuhdi Al-Dahoodi (born April 22, 1940 in Tuz , Iraq ; † January 6, 2017 in Leipzig , Germany) was a Kurdish historian and writer who, in addition to prose works, also created a modern standard work on the Kurds .

Life

Zuhdi Al-Dahoodi grew up in the Iraqi part of Kurdistan and initially worked as a primary school teacher. In addition to his first literary publications in regional weekly newspapers, he was involved in the left-wing Kurdish opposition during this time. After political imprisonment, he studied history and philosophy at the University of Leipzig and received his doctorate there in 1976. His work as a lecturer at the University of Mosul / Iraq from 1976 to 1979 ended with the escape from political persecution by the Saddam Hussein regime . This was followed by teaching positions at universities in Garyounis / Libya, in Leipzig and, after the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003, in Kirkuk / Iraq. Zuhdi Al-Dahoodi last lived near Leipzig and worked there as a writer, author and interpreter.

Services

Al-Dahoodi's literary work was mainly published in Arabic and Kurdish. In 1987 “The Kurds. History, Culture and the Struggle for Survival ”published. In his other literary work mainly topics of Kurdish life in the 20th century are dealt with.
