The St. Niklaus Guild is a district guild in the city of Zurich in Switzerland . It was founded on December 28, 1933 on the occasion of the imminent second incorporation of the communities Oerlikon , Affoltern , Seebach and Schwamendingen into the city of Zurich by 88 founding guilds. The guild of Schmiden stood by as a godfather.

The guild area today includes Zurich's 11th district . In 1971, Schwamendingen became part of the city district 12. In 1975, the Schwamendingen guild was founded, supported by the St. Niklaus guild as the "goddess guild".

The name of the guild is derived from a St. Niklaus chapel in Zurich's Grossmünster in Schwamendingen, which existed as early as the 12th century. It stood on the site of today's Evangelical Reformed Church in Schwamendingen . The guild coat of arms combines the main emblems of the coats of arms of the three communities: Pflugschar (Oerlikon), Glatt (Seebach) and Stern (Affoltern, Seebach).

At the Sechseläuten

The area around Oerlikon was part of the County of Kyburg until 1442, also at the time of the Brunschen guild revolution of June 7, 1336 . The guild represents the custom bill (interest levy) on the Kyburg at Sechseläuten around 1750. At that time, Kyburg was a bailiff of the city of Zurich.

The Kyburger Dragoons

The guild riders represent Kyburg dragoons. This is a historically guaranteed company of dragoons that earned the privilege of wearing the red and yellow uniform because of their services in the Second Battle of Villmergen .
