Zverino Island (English; Bulgarian остров Зверино ostrow Swerino ) is the largest and most western of the Meade Islands in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . In the northern entrance to McFarlane Strait between Livingston Island and Greenwich Island , it is 2.4 km east of Williams Point , 2.1 km northeast of Ficheto Point and 1.9 km west of Duff Point . The island , which was not covered with ice in the Antarctic summer, is 1.2 km long, 700 m wide and has an area of ​​48 hectares . The 110 m wide Glogowo Passage separates them from Cave Island in the east northeast .

British scientists mapped them in 1935 and 1968, Chilean ones in 1971, Argentine ones in 1980, Spanish ones in 1991 and Bulgarian ones in 2005 and 2009. The Bulgarian Commission for Antarctic Geographical Names named them in 2010 after the town of Swerino in western Bulgaria .
