The company Zweifel is a Swiss food manufacturer and trading company. It consists of two sub-companies: Zweifel Weine and Zweifel Pomy-Chips , united under the umbrella of a holding company based in Zurich .

history

The wine division Zweifel & Co. AG , based in Zurich, is the older part of the group of companies. The Doubt family has been living in Zurich Höngg since the Middle Ages . Due to the increasing number of vine diseases, the company founded in 1898 by Emil and Paul Zweifel under the name of "Gebrüder Zweifel, Eigenbau und Handel mit Wein und Obstsaft", soon shifted its focus to fruit juice production. The viticulture was soon stopped, only the trade remained. In 1946/47 the newly built juice must factory was the most modern in Europe and one of the leading in Switzerland. Increasingly greater competition from the new American beverage products (Coca-Cola etc.) that have come into fashion, however, led to a decline in earnings, which was followed by another reorientation. In the 1950s, the company began trading mineral water and began producing potato chips (see below). At the end of the 1960s, vines were grown again in Lattenberg near Stäfa and in Regensberg and a separate winery was put into operation. Since then, the Zurich city wine has come exclusively from the Zweifel family. Doubt later took over, among other things, the exclusive agency for wines from the Prince of Liechtenstein's Hofkellerei . In 1983 the cider factory in Höngg was finally closed. Today, in addition to in-house production, wines imported from all over the world (mostly directly from the producer), as well as spirits, sparkling wine and champagne are traded in own shops in Zurich, Kloten , Aarau and St. Gallen as well as through sales partners. The company also has its own restaurant.

At the end of 2008, Hansheinrich Zweifel, who had built up the company since 1958, gave up his position as Chairman of the Board of Directors.
