Twice Christmas

Twice Christmas (proper spelling: 2 × Christmas , French 2 × Noël , Italian 2 × Natale , Rhaeto-Romanic 2 × Nadal ) is a joint charity campaign by the Swiss Red Cross , Swiss Post , Coop and SRG SSR .

idea

The campaign has been taking place regularly since 1997 during the Christmas season and between the years . The aim was to recycle gifts received twice. The donation packages can be posted free of charge in every post office and post office . Swiss Post forwards all collected parcels to the Swiss Red Cross (SRK) during the campaign period, mostly from December 24th to December 5th. January, further. The SRK then takes over the distribution of the goods to those in need in Switzerland and Eastern Europe . Items such as long-life food and hygiene articles are particularly welcome as donations. Clothes and books should not be donated.

  • 2007 to January 8, 2008: As an innovation, parcels can also be given for free on the website www.2xweihnachten.ch.
  • 2008 to January 7, 2009: This year in Bosnia-Herzegovina - mainly in the Tuzla region, where the traces of the war can still be felt - in Belarus and Moldova.
  • 2009 to January 9, 2010: Virtual packages can be given away until January 31.
  • 2010 to January 8, 2011: In addition, a post bus was on the way in German and French-speaking Switzerland and also received gift packages from the population.
  • 2013: 73000 packages. 218 tons in Switzerland and 119 tons in Eastern Europe (Bulgaria, Moldova, Belarus and Bosnia and Herzegovina).
  • December 24, 2014 to January 10, 2015: On December 30, 2014, an action by Radio SRF 1 took place on Bern's Münsterplatz .
