Cytoprotection

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As cytoprotection , and cell protection called, refers to a supportive therapy strategy with which the healthy body cells against toxic to be protected effects.

In oncology , cytoprotectors are supposed to protect healthy cells from the negative effects of radiation or chemotherapy without negatively affecting the antitumor effectiveness of the therapy.

Examples of approved cytoprotectors are amifostine , mesna and dexrazoxane .

In the anatomy of the gastrointestinal tract , for example, the glandular mucous membrane of the stomach , the pars glandularis , is referred to as cytoprotection. Here the cardia and pyloric glands ( glandulae cardiacae et pyloricae ) form a slimy secretion ("mucus"), which covers the stomach wall as a protective layer and protects it from self-digestion .
