content

Waldo Badmington is an English nobleman who comes to the Wild West to take on the legacy of old Baddy. This consists of a ranch , on which the Indian Sam also lives. He is accompanied by his butler Jasper. Lucky Luke is supposed to accompany Waldo, according to Baddy, so that he can cope better in the Wild West. However, the owner of the neighboring ranch, Jack Ready, wants to get rid of Waldo. Because of his fine 'English' manners, Waldo is seen by the rough-nosed locals as a greenhorn who doesn't fit into the Wild West. Therefore, Waldo gets into some inconvenience. So Jack Ready puts him in jail and ensures that Waldo is to be hanged . However, Lucky Luke manages to thwart Jack's plan to abandon Waldo and then take over the ranch. In the end, after a challenge for a duel on the part of Waldo, Jack Ready has to flee to another city in fine English clothes, where he stands as a greenhorn himself, the butler Jasper sets off to search for gold in Alaska and Waldo has settled in so well in the Wild West that he participates in the "greeting" of a greenhorn.

Remarks

The character of the butler Jasper is reminiscent of the classic western comedy Ruggles of Red Gap ( A butler in America with Charles Laughton , 1935).

The plot of the film Verflucht, damn und Halleluja (with Terence Hill , 1972) is similar to the plot of this Lucky Luke tape.

The later Lucky Luke volume Am Klondike can be seen as a continuation of The Greenhorn , as Lucky Luke and Waldo Badmington go there in search of Jasper, who set off to search for gold at the end of the present volume.
