The Daltons in the Loop (original title: La corde au cou ) is a Lucky Luke comic album , which was drawn by Morris' successor Achdé and written by Laurent Gerra . It was first published in 2007. The German-language edition was published as number 80 by Ehapa-Verlag .

The volume parodies the Indian wars and the American Indian policy, which is completely wrong from today's perspective .

action

The four Daltons received an important presidential decree in prison . Instead of the amnesty expected from Joe , they are told that they are to be hanged in two weeks.

A fellow inmate explains to the Daltons that the only way to escape the gallows is through a wedding. So Ma Dalton sets out to find a wife for her 4 sons. At the last moment - the four brothers already have the rope around their necks - the four daughters of the Indian chief Fröhlicher Adler arrive and agree to marry. The Indian women are quite ugly and imperious, except for Prairie Flower, which is beautiful, hardworking, and affectionate. This falls to Averell , of all people, which the other three Daltons do not like and should cause a lot of trouble. Because they have no choice, the Indian-style wedding takes place the next day. This ends with a big Asterix-style banquet and Luke rides into the sunset.

But the story is far from over. The next morning, the three younger Daltons are instantly growled into hard work by their wives. When they want to complain to Chief Merry Eagle, he is unexpectedly understanding and reveals his plan to regain lost lands: The Daltons are supposed to bring the White Men to their knees by stealing the "God of the White Man" (the dollars ) . Although he usually raids banks , Joe initially refuses, because if he is caught now, that means the rope for good. Instead, it is decided that the Daltons will teach the tribe how to rob banks.

The first bank robbery by the Indians embarrassed them, because they steal everything, but not the safe. To save the honor of the tribe, Joe decides to ride into town dressed as an Indian himself. Because they are used to operating four people, they have to use a trick to get Averell to take part: They explain to him that he has to get presents for his wife in town because she likes something like that. The plan works, and soon the Plattkopfindians have mountains of money. Because the pay for the cavalry is not paid, the cavalry begins to strike - just like the Indians.

Lucky Luke is supposed to bring an armored car with the pay to the fort, but the escort goes wrong due to the good organization of the Indians and Luke and his companions barely get away with their lives. Luke visits the Indians and finds out there that the younger three Daltons have already run away with plenty of booty. He catches up with her and can overwhelm her after a brief shootout too. But because the women appear and Luke realizes how despotic they are, he returns to the tribe with them. Happy Eagle gets angry with Lucky Luke because he now knows his secret. Shortly before the torture, the cavalry unexpectedly arrives and frees him. When asked why they still appear without pay, the commandant only replies: "On credit ".

The Plattkopfindians end up signing a peace treaty that guarantees them their lost land and the Daltons end up in prison again - and are sentenced to only 483 years of forced labor.
