The Pony Express (French: Le Pony Express ) is an album from the Lucky Luke comic series . It was drawn by Morris and written by Xavier Fauche and Jean Léturgie and first appeared in 1988.

action

By 1860, newly acquired California was still post-cut off from the rest of the United States. The government is offering a $ 50,000 reward as an incentive for those who can get mail from Sacramento, California to Saint Joseph, Missouri, in less than ten days , otherwise the money would go to the local railroad company Pacific Railway for track construction. The entrepreneur William Hepburn Russell then announced that he would set up a pony express for the 2900 kilometer route and asked Lucky Luke for help. Despite a number of trained riders and horses, Lucky Luke and his horse Jolly Jumper ultimately have to cope with the route alone, as there are numerous acts of sabotage by Pacific Railway employees. Since Lucky Luke managed the route in less than ten days, he is celebrated at the destination of Saint Joseph. Later on, the Pony Express riders were replaced by the newly established telegraph line just 1.5 years later.
