The tenth generation Honda Civic was presented to the public for the first time as a two-door concept vehicle at the New York International Auto Show in spring 2015. The vehicle is based on a new global platform designed to significantly improve chassis dynamics. Since, in contrast to the previous model, the tank is no longer under the front seats , the rear seats known as Honda Magic Seats can no longer be folded up.

history

limousine

Honda showed the sedan as the first production version in September 2015 . Production began in Greensburg and Alliston at the end of October 2015, and the vehicle has been at dealerships in the USA and Canada since November 12, 2015 . The vehicle made its debut in Thailand on March 12, 2016, and China followed a month later.

The European version of the sedan made its debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show ; it has been on sale since May 20, 2017 at prices starting at 25,520 euros. While the equipment variants for Europe are identical to the hatchback, only the 134 kW (182 PS) 1.5-liter petrol engine and the 1.6-liter diesel engine with 88 kW (120 PS) are used on the drive side . The version for Europe is produced in Gebze , Turkey .

Coupe

At the LA Auto Show in November 2015, Honda presented the production version of the coupé variant, which is strongly based on the concept study shown in spring 2015. On March 15, 2016, sales began exclusively in North America. Due to insufficient sales, Honda took the coupé off the market in summer 2020.

Hatchback

At the Geneva Motor Show in spring 2016, Honda presented a prototype of the five-door hatchback variant for the first time. Like its predecessor, it is built in Swindon, England, and exported to other markets from there. The hatchback model is also being sold in the USA for the first time since 2006. Honda invested around 270 million euros in manufacturing the new model. Honda presented the production version at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, and the five-door model went on sale in Europe on March 18, 2017 at prices starting at 19,990 euros. The drive is initially taken over by two newly developed turbocharged VTEC gasoline engines with a displacement of 1.0 and 1.5 liters. The 1.6-liter diesel engine familiar from the previous model has been available since March 2018.

A sporty Type R variant with a two-liter turbo engine is also available again. Honda showed a first preview with a prototype also at the Paris Motor Show 2016, the front-wheel drive series version was officially presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2017. It takes over the drive from the previous model, but with 235 kW (320 PS) has an output of 10 PS more. In Europe, the Type-R was launched in September 2017 at prices starting at 36,050 euros. The Type-R has also been exported to the USA since June 2017, making it the first Type-R model ever officially offered for sale in North America. On April 4, 2017, the Type-R lapped the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring in 7:43:80 minutes. The vehicle thus replaced the VW Golf GTI Clubsport S as the fastest front-wheel drive car on the racetrack. In April 2019, the Renault Mégane RS Trophy-R lapped the racetrack in 7:40:10 minutes, making it the new record holder.

The Civic has been visually redesigned for the 2020 model year.
