The Honda Concerto is a compact class car and the successor to the Ballad. It is the result of the collaboration between the Japanese car manufacturer Honda and the independent British car manufacturer Rover . The Concerto was produced from June 1988 (debut in Japan; models built in England for European markets only from October 1989) until the end of 1994. The Concerto was available as a five-door station wagon and a four-door sedan , although the four-door model was not offered in all markets. It is related to the Rover 200 of the second and 400 of the first generation.
There were a total of three different engine variants on the German market. The smallest engine offered in Germany had a displacement of over 1.5 liters and developed 90 hp (66 kW). The Concerto was also available with a 1.6-liter engine with 112 hp (82 kW) and multi-point injection . The most powerful engine, also with a displacement of 1.6 liters, developed 122 hp (90 kW) and had two overhead camshafts (DOHC). The engines used for the Concerto were also used in the fourth Civic .
There was a catalytic converter as standard on the German market . Central locking was standard in the 1.6-liter versions, and the DOHC version was also equipped with an anti-lock braking system and sunroof as standard .
In Japan, the Concerto's four-door sedan was replaced by the Honda Domani in 1992 . There was no successor to the Concerto's five-door hatchback. In Europe, it was not replaced by the sixth generation of the five-door Civic until the end of 1995.
