The third generation of the Honda Civic was manufactured from September 1983 to September 1987. It was available in four body styles: as a Coupé CR-X , three-door hatchback, four-door notchback and Van Shuttle (a forerunner of today's vans). The Pininfarina design office was involved in the design of this model series .

Furnishing

The third generation does not have a classic station wagon, as this role is taken over by the small van shuttle . The shuttle had front-wheel drive as standard and was also available with all-wheel drive. This could be switched on with a push button on the dashboard. In 1987 the shuttle's all-wheel drive system was changed. It was equipped with an automatic viscous coupling that automatically transfers torque to the rear wheels at different speeds of the axles.

Engines

Honda initially offered the Civic with 1.3 liters of 52 kW (71 PS) and the 1.5 liter GL or S with 62 kW (85 PS). These were supplemented in 1984 with the 1.2 liter 40 kW (54 PS). The top model of its time was the 1.5 liter GT with 74 kW (101 hp). From the 1986 model year onwards, this version was equipped with a regulated catalytic converter, which was pointed out in the brochure of that time with a simple subordinate sentence in small print "for the environmentally conscious driver". The version with a catalytic converter developed 90 hp.
