The Kissinger Höhe is a mine dump in Hamm in Westphalia .

The spoil dump has an area of 39 hectares and a maximum height of 112.3 m above sea level, which means that it towers over the surrounding area by 58 m. The mine dump was created by the pouring of dead rock from the east mine between 1974 and 1998.

After it was used by the mining industry, the dump was prepared for recreational use and 500,000 trees and bushes were planted. The 17 km of hiking trails are deliberately designed with gradients of 4 to 16% in order to offer athletes different levels of difficulty. Nordic walking is encouraged through information boards in the parking lots, signposted routes and regular running meetings. After the heap was restructured into a Nordic Walking Park, dogs are required to be leashed. Since then, bicycles have been banned from entering the dump.

From the dump you have an excellent view of the eastern Ruhr area, a mining trail shows some typical devices and techniques that are used underground. The Kissinger Höhe serves as a panorama of the Route of Industrial Culture .

Culture

Various associations exist to preserve the history and increase the attractiveness of the Kissinger Höhe. This includes the "Association for the Promotion of the Kissinger Höhe Halde" and the "Cottmanns Hütte" association.
