Since the vehicle is bi-directional, one BUSE computer has to be suspended when driving, to prevent accidental crossroad switching.

The vehicle is equipped with 3 types of brakes: Eletrodynamic (standard), Electromagnetic (emergency) and disk brakes (used to bring the tram to 0 km/h).

Electrodynamic brakes can bring the tram to as low as 5 km/h and they recycle the energy gained from braking and dispense it back into the trolley wire.

Electromagnetic brakes are used only in emergency. There are 8 electromagnetic brakes in the vehicle, and are activated with either a button (used mainly for testing), when emergency brake button is pressed, or when the hand controller is pushed back entirely.

Disk brakes are used to bring the tram into a complete stop. They are equipped with wheel slide protection.

Škoda 30 T (also ForCity Plus) is a five carbody low-floor bi-directional tram, developed by Škoda Transportation for the Bratislava tram system based on an earlier model Škoda 26 T designed for Hungarian Miscolc. Just as Škoda 26 T, the tram was designed by Aufeer Design.[1][2]

Vehicle Design

The tram is a five section fully air-conditioned high capacity electric multiple unit with four bogies and five pairs of doors on each side of the carriage. 92% of the tram has a low-floor area.[3] Two of the four bogies are fixed and the outer two can pivot to adapt to curvature of the track. One of the inner and both outer bogies have driving axles.[4] The vehicle is equipped with 2 driving stations, each has separate air-conditioning, fridge and equipement to switch the crossroads manually. The driver controls the tram with a hand-controller.

Tram Controls

The hand controller is the main way of controlling the tram. It has an integrated dead-man feature and 2 buttons on each side (left is light-horn, right is the bell). The bell can also be activated with a button on the control panel, or with the right pedal. The left pedal activates sanding. The control panel consists of many buttons, vehicle computer and the on-board computer BUSE BS 301. The vehicle computer is controlled by a touchscreen. It diagnoses the tram, shows the speedometer, the driver has access to the sander status and more. The on-board computer BUSE takes care of the camera system, ticket validation machines, manages the outside and inside displays and controls the acoustic announcement system, as well as the dispatch system and crossroad control. The on-board computer has GPS, the stops are announced automatically, according to the GPS position, door status (opened, closed) and distance travelled.

Interior

The interior for the passanger is equipped with air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, automatic touch-enabled ticket validation machines, 12 Full-HD displays displaying stops, acoustic announcement system and a heating system.

There are 5 doors on each side of the tram (10 total). Doors will open on demand (passanger has to push a button). Above each door, there is a infrared photobank system used for counting passangers boarding the tram. It can be used to automatically close the doors, if noone has passed through for a certain amount of time.
