Untitled

The Colour of My Love is Céline Dion's third English-language album, released on November 9, 1993. It's also her eighteenth album if counting the French releases.

Album information

Dion worked with people who helped her on Unison and Celine Dion albums before: David Foster, Walter Afanasieff, Diane Warren and others.

This album represents the internalization of Céline Dion. With The Colour of My Love Céline reached the fame all over the world. There were many singles released from this album: "When I Fall in Love" (a cover of Nat King Cole song, featured in the Sleepless in Seattle movie), "The Power of Love" (a remake of Jennifer Rush's 1985 hit), "Misled," "Think Twice," "Only One Road," and "Next Plane Out."

Non-U.S. version of the album included additional song "Just Walk Away." The Colour of My Love was re-released in Japan on October 21, 1995 with bonus track "To Love You More" (a smash hit in that country).

The Colour of My Love was noteworthy in that, in the dedication section, it was the first public acknowledgment that Dion had fallen in love with her manager, René Angélil. In the dedication, Dion had named Angélil the colour of [her] love.

With "When I Fall in Love]]" and "The Power of Love" Céline got two Grammy nominations. She won many awards during The Colour of My Love era, including: Ivor Novello Award for "Think Twice," Golden Disc Award for "To Love You More," IRMA Award for The Colour of My Love, and World Music Award for World’s Best Selling Canadian Female Recording Artist of the Year. Dion recived also many Juno and Félix Awards, and was nominated for one American Music Award.

Chart success

The Colour of My Love to this point was Céline's biggest success. The album has sold around 18 million copies worldwide. This is more than her 2 previous English albums and all of her previous French albums together. The Colour of My Love was Dion's first album to reach #1 on charts. It featured also her first #1 singles: "The Power of Love" (United States, Canada, Australia), "Think Twice" (United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Denmark) and "To Love You More" (Japan).

The Colour of My Love gave Céline big success in U.S. with sales exceeding more than 6 million copies making the album 6x platinum and peaking at #4 on The Billboard 200 album chart. It spawned Dion's first #1 hit in U.S., "The Power of Love," 2 top 30 singles ("When I Fall In Love" and "Misled," both reached #23) and 2 top 100 singles ("Think Twice" at #95 & "Only One Road" at #93).

With very little success at this point in the UK, the main track "Think Twice" slowly moved up the chart to #1, where the album quickly followed. The Colour of My Love and the single stayed at number 1 for 7 weeks both (an achievement not replicated since 1965 with the Beatles). Total album's sales in the UK have reached almost 1.9 million. "The Power of Love" and "Only One Road" also made the UK top 10, peaking at numbers 4 & 8 respectively. "Misled" reached #15.

The album went to #1 in 6 countries: UK, Australia, Canada, Ireland, Norway and Greece.
