Charlie Dore (* 1956 in Middlesex , England ) is an English singer and songwriter. In the 1980s, she also tried her hand at acting.

biography

While attending the Royal Shakespeare Company Acting School, Charlie Dore met Julian Littman . The two musicians performed together as a folk duo. At the same time, Dore got some theater engagements. She sang some songs she wrote herself on the Rainbow TV series .

1976 began a new chapter in Dore's career when she formed the blues band "Hula Valley". In 1977 the country band "Charlie Dore's Prairie Oyster" was founded, which in 1978 was renamed "Charlie Dore's Back Pocket". One of the founding members was the later Dire Straits drummer Pick Withers .

The step to the solo artist followed in 1979 with a recording contract with Island Records and the release of the debut album Where to Now . The single Pilot of the Airwaves reached the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 , but was also represented in the charts in other countries, e.g. B. in New Zealand at position 12. The Record World Magazine selected Charlie Dore as "best new singer".

Her second album, Listen , was released in 1981, followed by a tour of Australia and Japan. Dore represented her homeland at the Tokyo Song Festival, but then returned to acting and got a role alongside Tim Curry and Frank Finlay in the film The Plowman's Lunch . She was also seen in television shows and theater productions. In the late 1980s, Dore was a member of the comedy group Dogs on Holiday .

The third Charlie Dore album Things Change was only released in 1995. An Italian producer team remixed the track Time Goes By , making it a dance hit in Europe. Then Dore lent her voice to other electronic song productions. As a songwriter, she wrote songs for Tina Turner , Celine Dion , Barry Manilow and Barbara Dickson, among others . The greatest successes with a Dore composition, however, were celebrated by Sheena Easton in 1984 with the US top 10 hit Strut and Jimmy Nail with Ain't No Doubt , in 1992 even the front runner in Great Britain.
