Barbara Dickson
Barbara Ruth Dickson , OBE (born September 27, 1947 in Dunfermline , Scotland) is a British singer , musician and actress .
Career
Dickson's singing career began in folk clubs in 1964 . Her first commercial recording was in 1968 and her first solo album, Do Right Woman , came out in 1970. She became a household name in the British folk scene in the late 1960s and early 1970s. From 1976 Dickson was also in the British pop charts . She established herself with her "impressive voice as a pop and ballad interpreter". With Answer Me - composed by Gerhard Winkler and in 1953 a number one hit in the UK - it came in 1976 at No. 9 the charts, their first of two top 10 hits. In the same year she recorded the original version of the song Another Suitcase in Another Hall, known from the musical Evita . Their most famous solo hit, January - February , dates back to 1980 and was also internationally successful. Dickson also sang I Know Him So Well , which comes from the musical Chess , with Elaine Paige . In 1985 the song reached number 1 on the UK charts and is still the best-selling female duet according to the Guinness Book of Records . Dickson was also very successful in the album charts, where she placed over a dozen albums from 1977 to the 1990s, including three in the top 10.
Furthermore, Barbara Dickson sang in several musicals. She also had acting success with Blood Brothers . In the 1990s she was mainly active as an actress.
Dickson is married and has three sons. In 2002 she was awarded the title of Officer of the British Empire .
