Here Comes the Sun is a song by the British band The Beatles , composed by George Harrison . It was released on September 26, 1969 on the Beatles album Abbey Road . Along with Something and My Sweet Lord, the piece is one of Harrison's most famous works.
Emergence
George Harrison wrote the piece at a difficult time for him. In January 1969, during the sessions for the Get-Back project, he had quarreled with the Beatles for several days. On February 8, 1969, his tonsils had to be removed; on March 12, 1969, he was arrested for possession of marijuana . He also found the business quarrels in the environment of the Beatles company Apple stressful . So he had decided to get away from it all for a while and he went to visit his friend Eric Clapton . He then composed the song in his garden.
In his autobiography I, Me, Mine , Harrison commented on the genesis of the song:
Here Comes The Sun was written at the time when Apple was getting like school, where we had to go and be businessmen, all this signing accounts, and 'sign this' and 'sign that'. Anyway, it seems as if winter in England goes on forever; by the time spring comes you really deserve it. So one day I decided - I'm going to 'sag off' Apple, and I went over to Eric’s house: […] The relief of not having to go see all those dopey accountants was wonderful, and I was walking around the garden with one of Eric's acoustic guitars and wrote Here Comes The Sun .
“ Here Comes The Sun was written around the time that working at Apple was becoming like going back to school and being business people; Sign, 'sign this' and 'sign that' all of these accounts. Somehow it seems like winter never ends in England, when spring comes you really deserve it. One day I decided to just 'skip' my work at Apple and I went to Eric's house: […] The relief of not seeing all those stupid accountants was wonderful and I walked through the garden with one of Eric's acoustic guitars and wrote Here Comes The Sun.
