Johann Friderich

Johann Friderich , also Johannes or Johannis Friderici or Friedrich (born October 7, 1563 in "Wolffeshausen" near Mellrichstadt (perhaps: Wülfershausen an der Saale ); † December 8, 1629 in Leipzig ) was a German historian , philologist and rector .

Life

After attending the Henneberg High School , he began studying at the University of Leipzig in 1582 , where he became a master's degree in 1587 and an assessor in the Faculty of Philosophy in 1589, although initially unable to obtain a professorship.

From 1592 he was vice rector of the Thomas School in Leipzig , in 1594 he moved to Annaberg as rector of the school . From there he moved back to Leipzig when he was appointed professor of eloquence in 1595 . He exchanged this position in 1599 with the professorship for physics and in 1608 with the professorship for languages ​​and history, succeeding Matthäus Dresser .

In 1596, 1604 and 1616 he was rector of the university. From 1599 he was entrusted with the office of university librarian, in 1607 he took over the rectorate of the Nikolaischule , both offices he held until his death.

He was buried in the university church on December 11th .
