Cláudio Lembo

Cláudio Salvador Lembo (São Paulo, October 12 1934) is a Brazilian lawyer, politician and university professor from Neapolitan background. He was elected in 2002 vice-governor with Governor Geraldo Alckmin. After Alckmin's resignation, to be able to run for the presidency of Brazil in the general elections of October 2006, Lembo became governor of São Paulo on March 31, 2006.

Lembo is professor of constitutional law and civil law at Mackenzie Presbyterian University.

Administration

Shortly after Cláudio Lembo became governor of São Paulo the city underwent a frightening wave of criminal activity led by the Primeiro Comando da Capital, commonly known as PCC. The PCC targeted the city's police, killing as many as 30 policemen in less than a month. The police killed over 100 alleged members of the PCC.

Cláudio Lembo blamed the "white rich people" of São Paulo for the criminal uprising, claiming that they didn't do enough to help the poor inhabitants of São Paulo.
