The Number 23 is a thriller film starring Jim Carrey, Virginia Madsen, and Rhona Mitra, directed by Joel Schumacher. It is scheduled for release on February 23 2007.
Plot
Walter Sparrow (Jim Carrey) stumbles onto a book entitled The Number 23, a story about an individual that becomes obsessed with the number “23” and its recurrence in his everyday life. As Walter reads the novel and sees the character surrendering himself to his own paranoia, he begins to experience similar feelings of euphoria and sexual arousal. When he starts researching, Walter realizes that he and his wife met when they were both 23. He notices the recurrence of the number 23 with such 'relevant' things like Kurt Cobain's date of birth and death and the number of times Caesar was stabbed. Time and day of birth and numbers on his IDs all come to the number 23. In fact, with time, Walter begins to spot parallels between the book and the real life situations that surround him, much to the displeasure of his wife Agatha (Virginia Madsen), who becomes concerned about his behavior. His confusion continues to escalate, and he starts to believe that the novel is actually based on his own life. When he finds that, in the book, the main character’s obsession leads to his descent into madness, transformation into a serial killer, and finally his grisly demise, he panics. If the story is indeed based on Walter’s life, he decides, he needs to find a way to prevent his own impending doom.
