William Mosforth, born Sheffield in 1858 & died 11 July 1929 (aged 71) was a football player. He was described as a similar player the Dutch player Arjen Robben, with his lightning pace and tricks. He played 9 times for England between 1877-1881, scoring 3 goals mostly against Scotland. If he had played today he would probably have gained a lot more caps but due to a lack of international games he only played 9 times. His last cap came when England lost against Wales on 26 February 1881. He also played for Sheffield Wednesday, Hallam F.C. and Sheffield United. In all he made 25 F.A Cup appearances for Sheffield Wednesday scoring 6 goals. In his last year as a footballer he played for Sheffield United in their inaugural year and made 28 appearances, scoring 6 goals. The last appearance of his career was for Sheffield United against Staveley on 17 March 1890.
