Album info and production

Technically, the production for Lyudi Invalidy began in 2003. It was during 2003 when t.A.T.u.'s then producer introduced the tracks "Lyudi Invalidy", "Ty Soglasna", "Nich'ya" and "Chto Ne Khvatayet" to the girls, and the songs were recorded. For instance, an early version of Nich'ya was played during the Show Me Love Tour. Demos from all four songs were also released to fans, and heard on Podnebesnaya. After leaving Shapovalov, and then taking a hiatus, t.A.T.u. negotiated with Shapovalov and the songs writers and composers to rerecord the songs. The music was changed on all of the songs, and in some the lyrics were altered. When the album was released in 2005, it only credited Shapovalov for the song "Lyudi Invalidy".

There is some debate among fans whether or not "Obez'yanka Nol'" was also produced during Podnebesnaya. During the show, a song was produced that sounded a lot like "Obez'yanka Nol'". Later on, a song titled "Tokom Po Vode (Tok)" was produced by MayDay and De Luxe (De Luxe had worked on Podnebesnaya), using the song that was mentioned.

Lyudi Invalidy features two songs from the English release, being "Loves Me Not" and "All About Us". On this album, "Loves Me Not" has different music than the version of Dangerous and Moving. It may or may not be considered a remix, however it is not labeled as one on the album.

Singles

Although "Lyudi Invalidy" is the only actual single from this album, some may consider that "All About Us" was also a single from this album. "Loves Me Not" also was played on Russian radio during 2006, along with "All About Us" and "Obezyanka Nol".

Controversy of "Disabled People"

The title of the album has caused much confusion and controversy. The words "Lyudi Invalidy" can translate into English as "Disabled/Handicapped/Invalid People," and even in Russian it implies someone who is physically disabled. However, the group on several occasions have stated that they mean morally disabled persons, which really rules out handicapped and somewhat based on translation, it rules out disability in the sense of physical.

t.A.T.u. was sued in November, 2006 by the Komi Republic claiming the album and song degraded disabled people. Specifically, they were offended by writing in the booklet, and the lyrics to the song "Lyudi Invalidy". t.A.T.u. expressed that they were not worried about being sued, and Katina added "Of course, we meant moral invalids, people who do not have soul and human feelings." When asked if they had anything against disabled people, she stated that she finds it offensive to refer to people by that term, and added "We take pictures together and make sure they have priority seats [at concerts]." No more news has been given about the lawsuit, and it is assumed to have been dropped. t.A.T.u. in previous interviews had always explained what they meant by Lyudi Invalidy.

Booklet

Below is the text found in the booklet, translated from Russian, that had caused controversy.

"Lyudi Invalidy are born the ways they'll die. They do not know what it is to be a human, they are a fake, a doll made out of a human-like billet. They have legs, hands, other parts of the body, physically you can not tell them apart from a human, but Lyudi Invalidy do not live, they function. Their functions are drawn by mechanic laws and four other clues: cruelty, fatuity, greed, turpitude. ЖГЖП. Everything they do is effective, predictable, dim and destructive. All the bad, very bad and awful happenings are the result of Lyudi Invalidy's activities. We live among them and rarely notice this big human fake."

  • Note: ЖГЖП (transliterated ZH-G-ZH-P) stands for Жестокость (cruelty), Глупость (nonsense), Жадность (greed), Подлость (corruptness) – CFGT. ЖГЖП is also found on some t.A.T.u. merchandise, and it is also on the inner ring of the CD for Lyudi Invalidy.

Translated Lyrics

"...Don't take from others, don't give what's yours.
Shut your eyes and die, love as you die.
Swear to me, tell me that it's nonsense.
Die and pretend that you'll love forever.

Evening without love, morning without occurrences.
Disabled people, disabled people

No one waits for the lost, no one wants the sad.
These people don't live, they drown like kittens.
Shut your eyes and die, tell me that it's nonsense.
Shut your eyes and lie to me that you'll love forever..."
