Saw IV is an upcoming horror/slasher film scheduled to be released on October 26 2007. The film is the fourth installment of the Saw series and was directed by Saw II and Saw III director Darren Lynn Bousman with James Wan and Leigh Whannell returning as executive producers.[1]

Production

Production offices opened on February 12th to begin the pre-production period. The filming of Saw IV began on April 16, 2007[2] for 6 weeks.[3] The filming location for the horror film was Toronto, Canada,[4] the same place both Saw II[5] and Saw III[6] were filmed. Post-production period began on May 19th.[7]

Says the producer: "Saw III was greenlighted the morning after Saw II opened to massive box-office returns, and what they also did was greenlight Saw IV."[citation needed]

Shooting for the film ended on May 30, 2007.[8]

Plot

According to a rumor site, the series creator/producer, Leigh Whannell, has stated that "many unanswered questions from SAW 3 will be answered, such as the tape Jigsaw pours wax over, Obi's connection to Jigsaw, among other things."[9] Another statement made says that not only will Lyriq Bent return for the fourth movie, the plot will center on his character.[10] Two other lead characters have been confirmed to be female.[11]

Darren Lynn Bousman has hinted that his blog on FearNet may contain a clue on the film's plot in a form of a double entendre, and confirmed that his dog Chance would make a cameo in the film.[12] A post dated April 12 indicated that he would be using rats in a trap, while a post on the 16th stated that James Wan had actually been disgusted by some of his concept art.[13][14] In an interview in June, Bousman specifically denied that the plot will center on efforts by Jeff from Saw III to find his daughter, and described the plot of the film as having "four different stories." He also indicated the first 20 minutes will contain extreme gore, and stated that one scene will involve an autopsy.[15][16].

Tobin Bell has stated on the role of his character, the Jigsaw Killer, "You find out why I'm back in the very first scene" and his appearance in a "Saw V" will be connected to a "tremendous ending". He also stated that his character will have dealings with a new character described as "one of the disenfranchised of the world."[16][17] Another interview with Bell named one of the characters who would die in a trap as "Cecil."[18] Mark Burg confirmed in an interview that Jigsaw had indeed been killed off in Saw III and his role will be neither a ghost nor confined to flashbacks.[11]
