Lyriq Bent (born January 3, 1979 in Kingston , Jamaica ) is a Jamaican-Canadian actor . He is best known for his role in the Saw series.

Life

Bent was born in Kingston , Jamaica and moved to Toronto , Canada when he was six years old. He grew up in Toronto and attended Seneca College in North York .

Career

Since beginning his acting career in the early 2000s, Bent has starred in various leading and supporting roles in both film and television. Prior to co-starring in the drama series Angela's Eyes , he was a guest on UPN series Kevin Hill, starring Taye Diggs, and USA Network's Kojak, starring Ving Rhames . After appearing on several television shows, he was listed as one of Canada's top emerging stars by Playback Magazine. Bent gained further attention when he starred as Officer Daniel Rigg in the horror films Saw II and Saw III . In Saw IV he was one of the central figures. From 2010 to 2014 he starred in the Canadian television series Rookie Blue , in which he portrayed Staff Sergeant Frank Best. In 2015, Bent Chekura played Tiano in the television series The Book of Negroes , based on the best-selling novel by Lawrence Hill . For this role, Bent won the 2016 Canadian Screen Awards for Best Actor in a Leading Dramatic Role.
