The son of the single computer scientist Jane Doe is kidnapped. The kidnappers call for Jane to pick up a rifle from a middleman so that she can practice shooting and then wait at a certain point for further instructions.

Jane witnesses a murder there and realizes that she is being used as a scapegoat in the murder case. The leads lead to the Cy-Kor company, for which she works, and to the manager Avery, who wants to sell secret data. Jane gets her son Michael back, and soon she and her son are kidnapped by men who act like government agents. They bring the two to David Doe, Jane's ex-husband and father of their son. David works for the DIA , he deliberately put inaccurate information in the Cy-Kor database in order to disinform the buyer of the data. He was helped by his son, whom David promised 50,000 US dollars for his help.

David's bosses want to kill Jane and her son to avoid endangering the operation. In the end, Jane prevails against the gangsters. David is killed by one of his colleagues, leaving his son two million US dollars. Cy-Kor's database is destroyed.
